Description

The purpose of the Enterprise Cloud Architect role at Santam is to align the company's business strategy and objectives with its IT infrastructure. The architect ensures Santam’s systems, processes, and resources are effectively designed, implemented, and managed to support the business goals. This role focuses on designing and maintaining cloud solutions and involves working across Santam’s technology landscape. The architect bridges the gap between business and technology, enabling Santam to achieve its long-term goals by leveraging appropriate cloud solutions.

Responsibilities

• Analyse Santam’s business strategy and translate it into a supportive IT strategy with a focus on cloud solutions
• Design and develop enterprise-wide technology architectures across business processes, applications, infrastructure, and security
• Establish and enforce architecture governance processes, principles, and standards
• Oversee alignment of IT initiatives with the enterprise architecture and assist in decision-making regarding technology investments
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their requirements and communicate architectural visions and plans
• Evaluate emerging cloud technologies, trends, and best practices to guide technology adoption, modernization, and retirement
• Perform technical due diligence for new cloud business solutions
• Ensure solution implementations are consistent with technology strategies, governance, and architecture
• Provide advice and consultancy across the Santam Group on enterprise architecture matters
• Lead design reviews, architectural reviews, and technical issue management meetings
• Provide support to development teams and business management as required
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of cloud architectures and solutions
• Establish and maintain Santam Group cloud architecture principles
• Develop and maintain specific cloud architectures for major providers like AWS and Azure
• Calculate total cost of ownership for cloud solutions and advise on the best implementations
• Maintain the Santam Group cloud platform architecture and logical cloud architecture
• Design and improve Santam BITS Enterprise Architecture Governance framework
• Facilitate quality assurance processes for design and development to ensure the integrity of systems

Qualifications

• BSc / BCom / BTech / BEng / Honours with Information Systems or Business as a major
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect (preferred) or Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• Minimum 8 years of experience in technology roles
• 3 years of experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, and systems design at an enterprise level
• 3 years of experience in IT architecture governance principles
• 2 years of experience in cloud architecture, designs, and implementation on AWS (preferred) or Azure
• Experience in cloud security concepts such as virtual private cloud, subnets, routing, firewalls, VPN connections, identity and access management
• Knowledge of cloud concepts like infrastructure as code, continuous integration and continuous deployment, containers, and serverless computing
• Experience working in hybrid- and multi-cloud environments
• Experience in providing cost estimates for cloud solutions and designing alternatives in the event of cloud cost increases
• Understanding of Santam systems and software development experience is an advantage
